The Sharp End of the Photon is a blog about medical physics and medical safety with an emphasis on radiation therapy. What exactly is it a medical physicist does? Answering that question is the reason I created this blog. Most people, thankfully, have little idea what is involved in radiation therapy. Unfortunately, some are forced by a cancer diagnosis into a crash course. Through my posts I hope to shed some light on the work that goes into delivering a safe but effective dose of radiation.
This blog is not a source of medical advice. I am a medical physicist certified in Therapeutic Radiologic Physics, but I am not a doctor certified in any medical specialty. This site is intended to support and not to replace the relationship between patient and doctor. Any requests for medical advice through email will be ignored. The thoughts and opinions expressed here are my own and do not represent those of my employers, coworkers, any professional organization or anyone else.
Privacy and confidentiality of patient data will be respected on this blog. Any cases presented here will be completely free of identifying data. However, any comments made on this blog are public, so be careful to omit anything you do not want broadcast across the internet. I cannot make any guarantees as to the privacy of email either. While I will not post the contents of email if so requested, email is fundamentally insecure.
Any medical information posted here will be sourced so that it can be looked up and evaluated. Any information posted in comments that contains incorrect or dangerous medical information will be removed.
